Travelling via the M1 leave motorway at Junction 35A following A616. Take the A628 signed Manchester. Eventually take outside lane to fork right onto A6018 for Stalybridge. As you come down the hill use the directions - all town centre areas are well signposted.
Travelling via the M62 leave the Motorway at Junction 18 to join the M60(East). Leave the M60 at Junction 24 to join the M67 following Sheffield/Barnsley signs. At the end of M67 take first exit from roundabout and proceed to Mottram. At first set tof traffic lights turn left for Stalybridge, A6018 and at the mini roundabout take the first exit. The road drops down into Stalybridge and all town centre areas are well sign posted.

Situated 2 mins from the town centre is Stalybridge Railway Station. The town also has two main Bus Terminals situated at each end of the town centre

Stalybridge is famous for several things....the most spectacular one being the song "It's a Long Way to Tipperary", which was written in the town. And not forgetting our very own world famous Stalybridge BrassBand, which is the oldest civilian Brass Band in the World!
Beatrix Potter's family came from Stalybridge, and lived in an area known as Castlehall. The artist L.S.Lowry lived in Stalybridge from 1948 until his death in 1976. Lowry's paintings documented the lives of ordinary people living in the industrial communities of the north.
| Also, Stalybridge is mentioned twice in the Guinness Book of Records - for having the shortest named pub in the Britain, namely 'The Q Inn' and the longest named pub in the Britain, namely 'The Old Thirteenth Cheshire Astley Volunteer Rifleman Corps Inn'. We also have one of the finest football teams in the land - Stalybridge Celtic Football Club. Also the the film 'Yanks' starring Richard Gere and Vanessa Regrave was filmed in Stalybridge in the '70's. |
